Origin: Mexico to Central America

Zone
: 8 - 10 (possibly zone 7 if mulched heavily in winter)

Flowers
: large, orchid-like, deep red blosooms; usually one per bulb

Foliage: grass-like

Culture
: sunny location in average soil. Blooms best when rootbound in containers. Resents disturbance and may not bloom for a couple of years after planting or transplanting.
