My admiration for Mr. Walton and his amazing garden are well documented in the September '08 Moss In The City. Not only is he a superb garden, but a honorable, charitable man.

This nation is full of great farmers. As food security and quality become more important, so will they. My good friend, Adolf, who supplies me with most of my farmers market fruit, has made the switch to sustainable farming. Chad and Danika are doing the same thing in southwestern Michigan. The Talking Farm is trying to become an urban, sustainable, agricultural farm (in the model of City Farm and Growing Home) with Linda Krumin leading the charge. And the Philadelphia Orchard Project is turning good gardeners into urban pomologists all throughout the city of brotherly love.

These conscious gardeners are ushering in a new age of farming. Support them when you can.

Lori's urban garden is a great example of what community can do when they come together. Her father started this garden years ago. His children and neighbors have continued to grow crops and ornamentals right in the heart of a highly populated, heavily concreted area.

We visited this valuable green space to see the newly sown crops, as well as the blooming peaches, apples, irises, daffodils, and lilacs. Afterwards to we took the opportunity to visit the legendary Apollo theatre and rub the log.
