Plant: spreading shrub to 15', often sheared much smaller. Cultivars typically shorter.

Origin: Northeast Asia and China

Flowers
: tiny, inconspicuous, white blooms along leaf axils. Red berries produced in autumn are spread into natural areas by birds.

Foliage: oval to obovate leaves turn flame red in mid to late autumn.

Culture
: full sun to shade. Best fall color in full sun. Moist, slightly acidic soil is preferred. Shrub has become invasive in the East.
