Plant: deciduous shrub to 6' tall and wide

Origin: southeastern China along streamsides and in forests

Zone
: 8 - 10. Survives in zone 7 in protected spots.

Flowers
: fragrant, tubular, white and yellow flowers crowded into umbels from February to April. 'Rubra' has bright red flowers. Hairy buds form in autumn and remain decorative all winter.

Foliage: Simple, entire leaves emerge as seeds ripen.

Culture
: full to part sun in rich, well-drained soil. Protect from winter winds and frosts. Like other Thymelaeaceae members (Daphne), paperbush resents disturbance. Decoratiive bark makes a high quality paper.
