Origin: open woodlands and uplands in eastern US

: 5 - 9 (4 for northern genotypes)

Flowers
: pink pea-shaped flowers clustered along the branches and twigs

Foliage: decorative leaves are shaped like spades from a deck of cards.

Culture
: full sun on average soil. Drought tolerant once established. Short-lived for a tree.
